A platform, a tool, and a means of purpose — three definitions that together define why your voice is the most powerful thing you own.
A rostrum is the elevated platform from which a speaker addresses the world. It is the moment before the words — the physical declaration that what you are about to say matters. We believe every person deserves to stand on that platform with confidence, clarity, and complete command of their voice.
On ancient warships, the rostrum was the iron ram at the bow — built to cut through rough water, absorb the force of storms, and protect everything behind it. Your voice works the same way. Developed with intention, it becomes the instrument that cuts through noise, navigates uncertainty, and protects your reputation when the stakes are highest.
In nature, the rostrum is the beak — the very place from which a bird speaks, sings, and signals its presence to the world. It is not a decoration. It is a purpose-built instrument of expression. The Rostrum Group exists to help you treat your own voice the same way: not as an afterthought, but as one of the most powerful tools you carry.
A platform to be heard. A tool to stand out. A means of purpose. Communication is the art of a voice built with intention.
— The Rostrum Group
Sarah Merrifield has spent more than thirteen years on the other side of the microphone — a four-time Emmy Award–winning broadcast journalist who has covered eight professional teams across four major leagues, currently the rinkside reporter for the NHL’s Utah Mammoth. Years of live television taught her something most people never get to learn under that kind of pressure: knowing what to say is one thing; saying it when the moment demands it — and revealing your authentic self in the process — is another.
She founded The Rostrum Group because that gap is everywhere in sport. The word “athlete” becomes an identity for many the moment they’re handed a jersey — almost like a mask. But when the game ends, the mask comes off, and too many find themselves lost without it. The Rostrum Group exists to bridge that gap — to lay the groundwork for an athlete’s identity and build it from the start of a career to its finish.
Drawing on her own experience — and years of watching players and colleagues navigate the unexpected ups and downs of the game — Sarah helps athletes in the same position find their way with clarity, communication, and conviction. On purpose.
